The road

Tolmie is the quiet stage in the Victorian Alpine collection - the one that goes north instead of east, away from the ski country and into the open pastoral High Country north of Mansfield. The 27-kilometre route from Mansfield to Tolmie rolls through grazing land at the foot of the Main Range, following the C521 with the Alps holding a consistent position on the right horizon. Tolmie is barely a town - a hall, a handful of properties, and the junction to the King Valley Road - but as a destination for a driving stage it works because the road to get there is good and the return route via the King Valley Road opens up additional exploration of the northeast.
