Ground rules.
Last updated: April 2026
Contour works because drivers share real information with each other. These guidelines keep that information useful and the community worth being part of.
What's welcome
- Honest condition reports from roads you've actually driven
- Photos that help other drivers see what's ahead
- Route suggestions and local knowledge
- Corrections to road data - if a score looks wrong, tell us
- Field notes about drives, tracks, and trips you've done
- Constructive feedback on the app or the data
What's not
- False or misleading condition reports
- Reports for roads you haven't been on
- Offensive, abusive, or discriminatory content
- Commercial spam or self-promotion
- Content that encourages illegal driving or unsafe behaviour
- Personally identifiable information about other people
A note on condition reports
Condition reports are seen by other drivers making real decisions. A false closure report can send someone on a two-hour detour. A missing hazard report can put someone in danger.
Report what you saw, where you saw it, and when. If you're unsure, say so. Reports expire automatically (most within 24 hours) because conditions change.
How we moderate
We review reports and flag patterns. Content that breaks these guidelines gets removed. Repeat offenders get their accounts suspended.
We don't moderate opinions or preferences. If you think a road scored too high or too low, that's a conversation, not a violation.
See something off?
If you spot content that breaks these guidelines, report it through the app or email hello@contourmaps.app. We'll look at it.
