1. Who we are
Contour is operated by Digital Engineering Australia Pty Ltd (ABN pending), based in Victoria, Australia. We build tools that help drivers find better roads. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@contourmaps.app.
2. What we collect
Account data
Your email address when you sign in. We use Supabase Auth for authentication - no passwords are stored by us.
Route searches
Origin and destination (as geohash - not your exact address), vehicle profile, route score, and whether you tapped Navigate. We use this to improve the algorithm.
Drive logs (mobile app only)
If you enable drive logging, the app records which road segments you drove, at what time of day, and approximate speed. GPS coordinates are processed on-device and are not stored on our servers. Only segment IDs are uploaded.
Condition reports
If you submit a condition report, we store the road segment, your assessment, and your user ID. Reports are public and visible to all users.
Device and usage data
Standard server logs: IP address, request timestamps, pages visited. Retained for 30 days.
3. What we don't collect
- Your exact GPS location (route searches use geohash approximations)
- Precise real-time location during navigation (navigation runs inside Google Maps)
- Payment card details (handled by Stripe - we never see your card number)
- Any data from your contacts, camera, or microphone
4. How we use your data
- To provide the service: authenticate you, run route searches, store saved routes and journeys
- To improve the road scoring algorithm using aggregated, anonymised drive logs
- To manage your subscription via Stripe
- To send transactional emails (sign-in links, subscription receipts) - no marketing email without opt-in

6. Data storage and security
Your data is stored in Supabase (hosted on AWS ap-southeast-2, Sydney). Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Access is protected by row-level security policies - you can only read your own route searches, journeys, and saved routes.
7. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act), you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Ask us to delete your account and associated data
- Opt out of any marketing communications

8. Children
Contour is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here with a new date. Significant changes will be notified via email.
