The road
The Chittering stage takes the Perth Hills collection north of the Darling Range into the Chittering Valley - a different character to the tight escarpment stages in Kalamunda and Gooseberry Hill. The 2024 Tarmac West rally ran 'Maryville Downs' stages here at 19.67 km each pass, making it the longest individual stage in the Perth event. The route runs through undulating farmland and wine country with the Chittering Valley wineries visible behind their vineyard fences. Open corners with good sightlines, light traffic on weekdays, and the Avon Valley widening ahead as the stage progresses north. This is where the Perth rally opens up. After the tight technical stages in the Hills, the Chittering stages reward a different kind of driving - rhythm, flow and the confidence to carry speed through open corners.
