Spectator-friendly criterium stage. More about the event atmosphere than the driving. Run four times during the Tarmac South West event to close the day.
Scored 4.6/10 by Contour's road quality algorithm across curviness, surface, elevation and traffic. Best suited for sports car drivers.
The road
The Pemberton Town stage is the closing act of the Tarmac South West rally - a 2.91-kilometre criterium through the timber town's main streets, run four times to finish the event. The route threads through town with spectators on both sides and the karri trees towering over the buildings. This is the stage that draws the largest crowd. The town is compact enough that the whole route is within earshot from the start line, making it the best spectator stage in the challenge. Crews have typically done the hard work on the forest stages by this point and the town stage is as much celebration as competition. Brockman Street - which is actually the Vasse Highway through town - forms the backbone of the stage route. The original timber buildings along the main street give the stage a character that the forest roads cannot match.

Why this road

The region
Pemberton is a timber town of around 1,000 people in the karri forest country. The main street (Brockman Street/Vasse Highway) retains its original timber buildings and the town's identity is built on the forest industry. The karri trees lining the streets are the same species as the giants in the surrounding forest - a reminder of how close the wilderness is to town.

Before you go
Fuel in Pemberton. Event hub and all services are in town. Road closures affect the main street during the rally event - check the Tarmac Events WA schedule. Good coffee at several cafes on Brockman Street.
