The road
The longest sealed stage in the Adelaide Hills collection and the one that best showcases the variety the hills can offer. The 15-kilometre run from the cherry orchards at Cherryville to Gumeracha traverses the full range of hills terrain - narrow stone-walled lanes through orchard country, open ridge-top sweepers with views across the Torrens Valley, and a fast final descent into the Gumeracha township. The Adelaide Rally has used this area for competitive stages, combining the Cherryville roads with the Chain of Ponds sections. The surface varies between sections but is consistently driveable. Gumeracha is known for the big rocking horse at its entrance - unavoidable and worth a photo. The town sits in the Torrens Valley and serves as a services point for the northern Adelaide Hills.
