The road

Nullo East Trail is one of the harder tracks in the Rylstone and Goulburn River plateau country - a technical sandstone fire trail on the Nullo Mountain escarpment where the surface combines deep ruts, loose rock and exposed side slopes. The plateau sits above the Goulburn River National Park and the gorge country below is dramatic - deep canyons cut through ancient sandstone by the Goulburn and Merriwa River systems. The track rewards careful vehicle placement rather than speed. At 4.99 difficulty and 4.97 RRI, this is near the maximum for the plateau district. The sandstone surface deteriorates further after rain, making dry conditions essential. The area is poorly documented and sees almost no tourist traffic. For drivers who enjoy technical terrain with consequences, Nullo East delivers. The Mudgee wine region 30 minutes south provides a good contrast to a day on the plateau.

Fuel in Rylstone or Mudgee. The trail has deep rutted sections that require careful vehicle placement. A single vehicle should carry all recovery equipment as help is a long way out. Check conditions after rain - the track becomes extremely challenging when wet. No phone coverage on the plateau.
