Footage submission terms
Version v1 - effective 22 April 2026. These terms apply to footage submitted through the public footage portal at /share-footage (web) or through the mobile app's submit-footage screen.
The short version
- You keep ownership of any footage you submit.
- You let Contour use, edit, publish, and commercialise it - including on social media, in ads, and in paid products.
- You confirm the footage is yours and contains no identifiable faces or number plates, no private audio, and no restricted locations.
- You can ask us to remove personal information about you at any time under the Australian Privacy Act.
- Your acceptance of these terms is captured at the moment you tick the box and submit. We record which version you accepted.
Full legal terms below.
1. Licence grant
By ticking the acceptance box and submitting footage through Contour's footage submission portal, you grant Digital Engineering Australia Pty Ltd ("Contour") a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid, transferable, and sublicensable (through multiple tiers) licence to use, reproduce, store, host, publish, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly display, transmit, make available, modify, adapt, process, index, analyse, and commercialise the footage you submit - including in social media, advertising, promotional materials, and commercial products - for any purpose connected with operating, improving, promoting, or commercialising Contour and its services.
Why we need this licence. So we can share your footage with other drivers, use it in our marketing and on social media, build derivative datasets (road quality scores, condition forecasts, aggregated analytics), and licence those datasets and the footage to commercial customers. The licence is irrevocable - you cannot withdraw the rights granted in respect of footage already submitted.
2. Moral rights
To the extent permitted by law, you consent to any act or omission by Contour or its sublicensees that would otherwise infringe your moral rights in the footage. This means we can edit, crop, or combine your footage without crediting you individually.
3. Your warranties
By submitting footage, you warrant that:
- You created the footage yourself, or you hold all rights necessary to grant the licence above.
- You had lawful access to all locations where the footage was captured.
- The footage does not contain identifiable faces or vehicle plates that you have not consented to publish.
- The footage does not contain audio recordings of private conversations.
- You hold any required permits for footage captured in national parks, state forests, or on private land.
- The footage does not depict defence facilities or other locations where photography is restricted by law.
- The footage is not false, misleading, defamatory, offensive, or unlawful.
- The footage complies with all applicable Australian and state laws.
4. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Contour against losses, costs, or claims arising directly from your breach of these warranties - specifically: (a) footage you did not capture yourself or for which you do not hold all rights necessary to grant the licence above; (b) footage captured without required permits; and (c) footage captured from locations where you lacked lawful access. This indemnity is limited to direct losses and does not extend to consequential losses, loss of profit, or reputational damage.
5. Your right to remove personal information
If the footage you submit contains personal information about you, you can request its removal under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 by emailing privacy@contourmaps.app. We will remove the personal information and delete the underlying submission where practicable. Aggregated, anonymised datasets already derived from your submission will be retained because the link to you has been removed.
6. Our right to moderate
We may remove, edit, or refuse to publish any footage that breaches these terms, is unlawful, or is otherwise inconsistent with operating Contour.
7. Versioning
This is version v1 of the Footage Submission Terms, effective 22 April 2026. We keep prior versions on file so each submission can be traced back to the version accepted at upload. Because submitters to this portal are not Contour account holders and may not be reachable by email, the 30-day notice of change that applies to in-app contributors does not apply here; the version recorded at submission time is the operative version.
